Harbor Sounds, a thriving and dynamic barbershop chorus in the Tri-City area, is seeking a dedicated Co-Director to join our leadership team. This position represents a unique opportunity to contribute to the artistic and organizational growth of our chorus while working collaboratively with our current director.
Position Overview
Harbor Sounds is an award-winning all-voice (male and female) chorus that rehearses year-round on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 pm at Bay City Western High School in Auburn, MI. The yearly calendar is based around a spring show, a regional convention in late October, and a holiday concert.
To ensure the long-term stability and continued artistic success of Harbor Sounds, we are seeking a Co-Director who will share musical leadership responsibilities. This is not an assistant position; rather, the Co-Director will have an equal role in directing rehearsals and performances, providing musical guidance, and shaping the overall artistic direction of the ensemble.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and co-lead weekly rehearsals
Provide vocal coaching and real-time feedback to improve individual and ensemble performance
Collaborate with the current director to plan and execute musical programs
Offer creative input and new perspectives to enhance the rehearsal process and overall performance quality
Support individual singer development and foster a cohesive ensemble sound
Preferred Qualifications
Experience directing or coaching vocal ensembles (barbershop experience preferred but not required)
Strong musicianship and leadership skills
Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
Passion for a cappella music and commitment to artistic excellence
Compensation
$30 per two-hour rehearsal
$40 per performance
Annual BHS membership and registration for the Pioneer fall convention
Scholarships of $1000/semester for students
